12) MOA with the Philippine Bureau of Agricultural Research (15 July 2003)

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) of the Philippine Department of Agriculture, to collaborate on agricultural research.

The MOA will serve as a statement of intent between ICRISAT and BAR to collaborate on advanced agricultural technologies, new research methods, scientific literature, training, and conduct of workshops and conferences.

According to Dr William Dar, Director General of ICRISAT, the agreement opens the possibility of sharing with the Philippine agriculture system cutting edge technologies and other international public goods related to dryland agriculture.

Under the agreement ICRISAT will provide access to these technologies, training and technical expertise on dryland agriculture, knowledge management, information systems and resource mobilization. ICRISAT will identify and provide information on the latest trends in international agricultural research, and help link BAR to international resource centers.

It will also promote and market joint research and training programs.
BAR, on the other hand, will adapt the technologies through the Philippine agricultural R&D network; send participants for training at ICRISAT and host training courses. It will provide information on the contemporary situation of the dryland agriculture in the Philippines, and implement monitoring systems for joint programs.
Dr William Dar, Director General of ICRISAT and Dr William C Medrano, Director of BAR (on behalf of the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture), signed the agreement.
