The collaboration will be for TVS Institute's farm, located at Ervadi village in Thirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, and adjoining villages.

Dr Dar said that the MOU will provide ICRISAT an opportunity to collaborate with the TVS Group, the private sector giant from South India, in their efforts to improve agriculture and extend the benefits of information and communication technologies to farmers in the dry areas of Tamil Nadu.

Mr Joshi said that the TVS Institute is looking forward to collaborate with ICRISAT. “This relationship will help us to improve agriculture in some villages in the dry parts of Tamil Nadu, and through it we can help the farmers to improve their income.”

According to the MOU, the two institutes will jointly develop detailed work plans and conduct seminars, workshops and training programs. While the funding will be from the TVS Institute, ICRISAT will provide the seeds of improved varieties, new tools and technologies of farm management and practices for certification trials and demonstrations.
The TVS Agri Sciences Research Institute is a non-governmental organization initiated by the TVS Group, which works for advancement of poor farmers and agricultural labor through the formation of self-help groups, farmer's associations and watershed development associations.
