Paul Anderson is the executive director of the Institute for International Crop Improvement at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, Missouri, where he coordinates partnerships in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The Institute is pursuing research efforts, trait improvements, product development and biosafety applications on a range of food security crops being improved through advanced technology.

Paul has more than 25 years of experience in corn, soybean, and wheat improvement and plant biotechnology development. His area of expertise is grain composition improvement for feed, food, and industrial uses, applications of crop biotechnology to enhance food production in developing economies, biofuels and biotic and abiotic stress resistance.

Before joining the Danforth Center, Paul was employed by Pioneer Hi-Bred International Operations where he was responsible for positioning of grain products in Asia, Eastern Europe, and South America, and he was Research Director for grain composition improvement. Prior to his time at Pioneer, Paul served as research director at Molecular Genetics, Inc., Plant Science Research, Inc. and as research manager at DEKALB Genetics Corporation. Paul also served for four years as principal investigator of a program funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to develop biofortified sorghum for arid and semi-arid areas of Africa.

Paul is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, with his Ph. D. and bachelor’s degree both in biochemistry.
