Senior Scientist (Genetic Resources)
Genetic Gains Program

Santosh K Pattanashetti works at ICRISAT, Hyderabad, as Scientist (Genetic Resources) in the Genebank.

He has a PhD from the University of Agricultural Sciences-Dharwad, India, in Genetics and Plant Breeding. Over three years at ICRISAT, Dr Pattanashetti is involved in pearl millet genetic resources management at the Genebank, and identification of trait-specific sources of pearl millet for enhancing the use of germplasm in crop improvement.

These activities at ICRISAT were preceded by over six years of a career in teaching and research at the University of Agricultural Sciences-Dharwad. During this period, he taught several courses in genetics, plant breeding, and plant biotechnology for postgraduate and undergraduate students; and also guided postgraduate students in research. He was also involved in the release of three cultivars in groundnut, cowpea and sunflower; and worked extensively towards identification of iron deficiency chlorosis tolerant sources in groundnut, and understanding their genetic basis.

In 2007 he served as a Dr KS Krishnan Fellow at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai. Before that, he was a Junior Breeder (cotton) in Bayer Crop Science, Hyderabad, during 2006-07. His publications include 19 journal articles, 18 conference papers, and three book chapters (31 citations,  h-index=3).
