ICRISAT Into the New Millennium
|
Information Exchange
Information exchange -- workshops, conferences, publications, library facilities, access
to electronic databases -- enables scientists to compare notes, keep abreast of new developments,
and develop a network of professional contacts in the international scientific community. Regional
and international workshops organized and/or sponsored by ICRISAT have attracted over 3000 scientists
from developing countries.
|
|
|
ICRISAT information specialists help ensure that national scientists
have access to the latest technical literature, through distribution of reprints and abstracts,
access to a comprehensive literature database, and a specialized literature search service.
New information technologies -- the Internet, development of "expert systems" and other
interactive databases, CD-ROM products -- are being harnessed to further expand the range
of information services the Institute provides.
|
|
ICRISAT produces a range of publications -- research reports, workshop
proceedings, newsletters, and other scientific literature -- targeted at various audiences;
scientists, extension staff, farmers, and laymen with an interest in agriculture. Each year,
close to 60 000 copies of various publications are distributed to collaborators worldwide.
Some of these publications are available in different languages. For example, titles in one
popular series (illustrated handbooks on disease and pest identification, ideal for use in
the field) are available in Bangla, Chinese, French, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Myanma, Nepali,
Sinhalese, Tamil, Telugu, and Vietnamese.
