  • ICGS 76 is a high-yielding virginia bunch variety, bred and developed at ICRISAT Asia Center, Patancheru, India
  • selected by the bulk pedigree method, from a cross between an adapted variety, TMV 10, and a short-duration source line, Chico
  • adapted to low-input rainfed cultivation.

Performance

  • average ICGS 76 has shown 30% pod- and 36% seed-yield superiority over the control variety Kadiri 3, in 4 years of testing in the All India Coordinated Research Project on Oilseeds (AICORPO), India
  • pod- and seed-yield advantages over control varieties Kadiri 2, TMV 10, and M13 pod-yield potential of 2.5-3.5 t ha-1 under good management conditions.

Plant characters

  • matures in 120 days in the rainy season
  • shelling turnover of 73%
  • good pod yield recovery after mid-season drought
  • field tolerance to the bud necrosis disease.

Seed characters

  • usually has 2-seeded (occasionally 3-seeded), medium-sized, attractive pods
  • tan in color
  • 100-seed mass of 44 g
  • 43% oil and 20% protein
