ICGS 44
- ICGS 44 is a high-yielding spanish-type variety, bred and
developed at ICRISAT Asia Center, Patancheru, India
- originated from a single plant selection made in natural
hybrid population of Indian variety Robut 33-1 (now known as Kadiri 3) in 1977/78. Kadiri
3 is a short- duration virginia-type variety.
Performance
- recommended for adaptive trials in Zone II (Gujarat,
India) after 3 years of postrainy-season trials in the All India Coordinated Research
Project on Oilseeds (AICORPO)
- pod yield of ICGS 44 over GG 2 ranged from 7.2% to 42.8%
in these trials
- maximum pod yield of 3.51 t ha-1 compared to 2.57 t ha-1
of GG 2 with full irrigation.
Plant characters
- small to medium dark-green, elliptic leaves
- between four and six primary branches, and between two and
four secondary branches
- plant height (main axis) is 16.2 cm and canopy (breadth)
is 35 cm
- matures in 120 days in the postrainy season
- shelling turnover of 70%.

- smooth, two-seeded, small to medium pods with little or no beak, and slight to moderate
constriction
