AGROVOC
Multilingual Thesaurus is the controlled vocabulary developed
by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Keywords given
in this thesaurus are used to index references in AGRIS, the
FAO’s bibliographic database. The AGROVOC thesaurus
currently has traditional hierarchical relationships and is
available online in 16 languages. ICRISAT undertook translation
of AGROVOC into Telugu language.
Now, FAO has entrusted to ICRISAT, the responsibility of converting
the existing traditional relationships in the thesaurus into
more semantically organized relationships. There are 28,625
Broader Term relationships, 28,617 Narrower Term relationships
and 28,219 Related Term relationships, besides 17,396 Used
For and 1,775 Used For references which need to be revised
and refined.
This revised AGROVOC will be the foundation for a more semantically
organized new structure, called the Concept Server that FAO
is planning to release. ICRISAT is also given the task of
modifying the AGROVOC database to accommodate language variances,
since AGROVOC is multilingual and is being translated into
various other languages.
