Roles & Responsibilities

* Department of Horticulture, Government of Karnataka.

  • Department of Horticulture will nominate a nodal officer for implanting the project. The proposed plan of action to identify 30 rainfed districts and undertake the registration of the farmers and select the beneficiaries by following the Government approved process;
  • To identify suitable farm facilitators and appoint them for operationalizing Suvarna Bhoomi Yojane in the districts as per the approved scheme of the Government of Karnataka;
  • Identify good quality planting material to be used by the farmers and make available for the beneficiary farmers;
  • Provide necessary logistical support to the district facilitating consortium partners and ICRISAT through the district officials in district and taluka for effective implementation of Suvarna Bhoomi Yojane;
  • Department of Horticulture will prepare detailed action plans along with ICRISAT and the consortium partners for each district and taluka and identify suitable crops to be covered in each district. The detailed action plans developed by Department of Horticulture and ICRISAT will be presented to the State level co-ordination committee;
  • Department of Horticulture will identify all the possible schemes like national Horticulture mission, micro-irrigation schemes etc., of Government of India and Government of Karnataka for converging them for the beneficiaries of the Suvarna Bhoomi Yajane;
  • Department of Horticulture will organize timely availability of necessary quality inputs (seeds, saplings, fertilizers including micro-nutrients, drip systems, pest control measures for ensuring successful establishment of the corps and increased productivity;
  • Provide logistical support for arranging training of trainers with the faculties from Departmental staff, Universities, Consortium partners and ICRISAT for the Suvarna Bhoomi Yojane;
  • Department staff will actively participate with the consortium partners for undertaking harvesting experiments particularly in case of vegetable to record yield data and also play an important role in organizing the filed days, publicity and documentation by the consortium partners;
  • Nodal officer will ensure timely implementation and organize meetings, planning and implanting meetings at different levels regularly to review the progress as well as undertake mid-course correction measures;
  • Facilitate mid-course corrections for efficient implementation of SBY through timely decisions, actions and communication for the concerned Dao and other consortium partners;
  • Facilitate efficient implementation of SBY for 2.5 lakh beneficiaries in 30 districts through timely administrative and financial support for the beneficiaries, consortium partners and input suppliers.
  • Dissemination of information with respect to departmental schemes, their convergence and promote adoption and benefits to farmers
