Future of Farming: Pathways to Sustainable and Resilient Agriculture

July 20, 2021 @ 1:00 am - 2:30 pm

The production of food faces multiple, significant challenges, none more so than adapting to a changing climate, with higher global temperatures, more droughts, less reliable rainfall patterns and increased flooding events. At the same time, agriculture must play its part in restoring ecosystems and reversing biodiversity loss, whilst also producing nutritious food that is affordable and accessible. This panel discussion will consider the multiple challenges facing agriculture and measures being taken to increase resilience and sustainability. It will identify the challenges to delivering on this in different parts of the world and identify changes that are needed in policy and practice.

The panel, chaired by Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Country Director- India, International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-arid Tropics (ICRISAT), will consist of:

Professor Tim Benton, Director, Energy, Environment and Resources Programme, Chatham House

Dr Tshilidzi Madzivhandila, Chief Executive Officer of the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN)

Jenny Edwards, Crops Director, Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI) Platform

Mr Ajay Vir Jakhar, Chairman of Bharat Krishak Samaj (Farmers’ Forum India)
