Millets, now termed as NutriCerelas, are traditionally grown in dryland regions for home consumption as staple diet for the rural population. They are classified into major millets and minor millets. Major millets are Sorghum, Pearl millet and Finger millet, most widely used for food, fuel, and fodder for domesticated livestock animals; a raw material for industrial uses such as alcohol, ethanol, starch production etc. ; Foxtail millet, Proso millet; Kodo millet, Little millet and Barnyard millet are minor millets grown in hilly, tribal and plains with poor soil and water environments.
Nutrihub, Technology Business Incubator of ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad has taken the responsibility to organize series of webinars on Millets Production, Processing, Value addition and Utilization to address the various issues faced by millets stakeholders. This Third National Webinar on “Millets as Smart Foods – USP for Millet Markets” will be on 5th September, 2020. Experts with more than 20 years of experience in Research & Development of millets will share their experiences to address USP for Millet Markets. Various Stakeholders of Millets viz. Farmers, Students, Entrepreneurs/Startups, extension Professionals, Agriculture officers from different states, NGOs, Scientists working in National Agriculture Research System can register & participate in the webinar to harness the aroma of millets.
The participation fee will be Rs. 500/- per participant.
