Scientific Officer – JSW Project

ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian Nationals for the post of Scientific Officer – JSW Project of Asia Program to be based at Ballari district (Karnataka), India.

ICRISAT is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world. ICRISAT and its partners help empower those living in the semi-arid tropics, especially smallholder farmers, to overcome poverty, hunger, malnutrition and a degraded environment through more efficient and profitable agriculture.

  • Conduct participatory field trials/demos with farmers in CSR watershed in Torangallu in Sandur block of Ballari district (Karnataka)  and collect high quality data sets required for scientific research
  • Day to day supervision of various watershed related activities and collection, compilation and tabulation of data
  • Train the farmers/farm facilitators and provide technical support, maintaining improved interventions at benchmark locations
  • Record scientific data, collecting of the information about the farmers and undertaking the crop cutting experiments to record yields in the demonstration plots
  • In addition to the above, any other responsibilities as entrusted by supervisor

Essential criteria:

  • Sc.  in agriculture, water resources,  or watershed related area
  • Proficiency in Kannada, Hindi, and English
  • Person with flair for field work related watershed management, group interactions and suitable experience will be preferred
  • Proficiency in computer skills (MS Office, data analysis)
  • Should be a good team player and adaptable to working in multicultural team


This is a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) position for two years renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the institute’s continuing need for the position.
