Dr Albert Tsindi is a Scientist at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), where he leads and contributes to seed system development initiatives across Eastern and Southern Africa. His work focuses on strengthening resilient, inclusive, and market-oriented seed systems that enhance access to quality seed, accelerate the dissemination of improved crop varieties, and improve the productivity and livelihoods of smallholder farmers. He has contributed to the development and implementation of integrated seed system approaches, including community-based seed production, farmer seed enterprises, early generation seed systems, partnerships with national agricultural research systems, seed companies, and other value chain actors to improve the availability and adoption of climate-resilient varieties.

Dr Tsindi has over a decade of experience in agricultural research, plant breeding, seed systems, capacity development, and higher education. His research and development interests span crop improvement, seed delivery pathways, climate-smart agriculture, and sustainable food systems, with particular emphasis on dryland crops such as pigeonpea, sorghum, pearl millet, and other grain legumes and cereals important for food and nutrition security in Africa. He holds a PhD in Plant Breeding from the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana, an MSc in Crop Science (Genetics and Plant Breeding) from Makerere University, Uganda, an MSc in Strategic Management from Chinhoyi University of Technology, and a BSc in Agriculture (Crop Science) from the University of Zimbabwe. Through research, partnerships, and innovation, Albert Tsindi is committed to strengthening African seed systems and advancing agricultural solutions that enhance resilience and sustainable livelihoods across the continent.
