About the course

Agriculture is a cornerstone of economic development, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. However, challenges such as limited access to technology, inefficient value chains, and lack of entrepreneurial capacity often hinder its potential. Innovation and entrepreneurship can address these challenges, ensuring sustainable development, improved livelihoods, and global food security. India’s success in promoting agribusiness innovation, startups, and public-private partnerships serves as a model for other nations, particularly those in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. This course aims to build capacity among participants to develop sustainable agricultural systems and foster agribusiness entrepreneurship in their respective countries.

 Introduction to agricultural innovation and entrepreneurship.

 Key challenges in global and regional agriculture

 Role of technology in transforming agriculture

 Hands-on session: Digital tools for agriculture (e.g., AI and IoT)

 Group discussion: Challenges in adopting technology in agriculture

 Building sustainable agricultural value chains

 Case studies: Successful value chain models in India

 Workshop: Identifying gaps in value chains in participants' countries

 Agribusiness startup development and incubation models

 Field visit: Interaction with Indian agribusiness startups

 Financing agribusiness startups: Opportunities and challenges

 Public-private partnerships for agricultural innovation

 Financing options for agri-startups.

 Role-play exercise: Pitching to investors

 Leadership and capacity building for sustainable agri-food systems

 Workshop: Developing leadership strategies in agriculture

 Policy frameworks for promoting agricultural innovation

 Networking session with Indian policymakers and agribusiness leaders

Target Participants:

Participants can be from government departments (agriculture, trade, rural development), universities, NGOs, and private sectors involved in agriculture, food systems, and entrepreneurship. Policymakers, researchers, agribusiness professionals, and development practitioners from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in Asia, Africa, and Latin America will benefit from this program.

Educational qualifications

University degree in science, engineering, law, management, business management, economics, social studies, etc.

Work experience required

2 to 3 Years of experience.

Guidelines to Apply for the Course:

 Create a login to apply for the course and furnish all the requisite information. Submit the application online and download the submitted application form

 Take a printout of the submitted application form, get appropriate signatures at all the signature placeholders throughout the application form including the English proficiency certificate, medical report, candidate undertaking form and the Employer nomination form.

 Scan the complete application document and submit the physical copies of the application form including the undertaking form and the employer nomination form to the Indian High commission in your country and e-mail the scanned copy of the executed application form to vishwambhar.duche@icrisat.org. with copy to babu.potta@icrisat.org.

Please note that we have very limited seats for the course and the eligible applications will be shortlisted by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India on First Come First Serve basis.
