Study-cum-Research Program at ICRISAT

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is a pioneering International Organization committed to developing and improving dryland farming and agri-food systems to address the challenges of hunger, malnutrition, poverty, and environmental degradation affecting the 2.1 billion people residing in the drylands of Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and beyond.   

ICRISAT invites applications globally from eligible candidates for 2025-26 academic year for a study cum research program at ICRISAT under the following categories:

• Internships for 6 weeks to 3 months duration
• Masters Research Program for 3 months to 6 months duration
• Doctoral Research Program for 6 months to 3 years duration

Eligibility criteria

• The candidates should have been enrolled for a Master's (for MSc), Doctoral (for PhD) and BSc (for internship) programs with a recognised academic Institute/university.
• Student research/interning should be a part of their academic requirements.
• Candidates should have completed their coursework requirements and must be free from attending classes during the period of study at ICRISAT
• In addition, students who have completed their PhD/Masters/Bachelors and wanting to enhance their skills for further studies/job/market readiness can also apply.

Other requirements

• Must apply online by paying a non-refundable application fee inclusive on GST (For students applying from outside India the nonrefundable fees is USD 20;  for Indian students applying from India it is 1500 Rs)
• Self-acquired Travel, accident, and health insurance are mandatory.

Application Process

• Applications are open throughout the year but will be processed three times in a year – June, September and March
• Candidates aspiring to enrol for the program must apply at least 45 days before the desired date.

Selection Criteria
Student will be selected based on

• Requirements of the scientists or research program at ICRISAT (see table below)
• Academic record
• Personal interview (Optional)

Bench Fee*#
ICRISAT will charge a nominal fee to cover the office space, database use, access to library, incidental costs such as chemicals, glassware, safety gear, and facilitation.

• Internships:  Up to three months - USD 100 and USD 25 for every month or part thereof
• Masters Research Students: First 6 months - USD 100; and USD 50 for every 6 months or part thereof
• Doctoral Research Students:  First 12 months - USD 150 and USD 50 for every 6 months or part thereof
• A limited number of scholarships/fellowships are also available, which will be given to deserving candidates

* Bench fee does not cover students’ food, stay and travel expenses.
# Students from low-income countries (as per FAO) can avail 50% concession
USD may be converted into equivalent local currency at the time of payment.
