Dr Lester Botoman currently serves as a Scientist- Systems agronomist under Resilient Farm and Food Systems Research Program in Malawi. Before joining ICRISAT, Dr. Botoman made significant contributions to agricultural research. He served as a Senior Agricultural Research Scientist at the Department of Agricultural Research Services (DARS) within Malawi's Ministry of Agriculture. Additionally, he worked as a Consultant Scientist for CIAT and ICRISAT, playing a key role in developing and implementing the Sustainable Intensification of Mixed Farming Systems Initiative in Malawi. With strong background in Agronomy and Soil Science, Dr Botoman focuses on optimizing farming systems to enhance productivity, climate resilience, and environmental stewardship. Dr Botoman has contributed to numerous projects and peer-reviewed publications advancing the understanding of complex agricultural systems and their sustainable intensification. He holds a PhD in Crop and Soil Sciences from the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Malawi, a Master’s degree in Soil Science from Ehime University, Japan and Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy from the University of Malawi.
