Dr Roopa Banerjee is a scientist with global academic and industrial expertise across biochemistry, molecular biotechnology, photobiology, food sciences, nutrition, and dietary behavior. She began her career in Industrial Food Sciences R&D with the Unilever Industries before earning her Doctor of Natural Sciences in Biology from Philipps University Marburg, Germany, supported by the prestigious DFG–International Graduate School Fellowship. Her doctoral research focused on the structure–function relationship of Arabidopsis cryptochrome 2. Currently, as Senior Scientist – Biochemistry and Grain/Food Quality, she leads frontier research in functional and community nutrition, including nutritional profiling of millets and legumes, plant‑based protein innovation, and validation of health claims for value‑added foods addressing malnutrition and lifestyle diseases. She has been instrumental in establishing quality standards for millets across agro‑food systems, working with leading global public and private organizations to advance sustainable, nutrition‑sensitive food systems and transform resilient grains into next‑generation nutrition solutions.
